Relaxing on a river island [Jan. 8th, 2008|04:33 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

Relax: an inviting chair to relax and enjoy the colors of the twilight by the river, on an island; Amgol, near Kundapur, Karnataka.

On the island:
Amgol, the Christmas weekend spent here turned out to be all of what the website claimed and more. Staying on a house on stilts by the river; the river, right outside the window, rising and lowering with the tides of the sea nearby, reflecting the calmness of the skies on its rippling surface, doubling the beauty of the visible and the invisible ; the sky, showing its palette of colors every evening during twilight, inviting the night; and to top it off, a breathtaking moonrise! There is nothing much to do in these environs expect to sit back, relax and enjoy the view.

A boat ride, a walk to a nearby temple:
The one break we took was to take a boat ride to a small Vinayaka temple across the river. With the river not being very deep, the boatmen use long bamboo sticks to push the boat across; the small temple itself had been built more like a typical canara house: mangalore-tiles roof, wooden windows and double colored walls.

Sorry, I missed some posts as we were in India.

Puri and Bhubaneshwar? We are planning on visiting there in July.
